Any Level - Beginner through Surf Foiling
Dwight LeComte began sailing dingys on LI Sound at the age of six. He was on the US Boardsailing team, pursued an Olympics spot, earned several national titles and was the US competitor at the 1985 Division II world Championships in Weymouth, England. He spent seven years boarding in Hawaii, an experience he calls, “epic bliss.”
Until recently Dwight managed and co-owned Glen Island Yacht Club in New Rochelle, NY. In 2020 he discovered wing foilng and quickly dedicated himself to the sport. For the past two years Dwight has been an ambassador for SIC Maui, representing the brand at yacht clubs and regional events with wingfoiling instruction.
The Goal is to get up and foil
There are many details but the steps are basic:
Get to know how to use the wing on land
Combine the wing with a SUP on the water
Using a SUP, reaching, jibing and staying upwind
Learn to taxi on the foil board
Learn to get up and Foil
Staying on foil by pumping the wing and board
The Path to Success
The keys to success are:
Find the gear that works for you: Too often people buy the wrong gear preventing proper progression. That’s why we provide the gear alternatives that are appropriate for your weight and wind conditions so you know before you buy.
Be Coached: Yes you can learn on your own. It just takes longer and the success rate is much lower.
Be persistent: Every session makes for progress, and is fun on the water!
